So just a few days til Christmas…Are you one of all the people running around like a crazy person trying to find those last minutes gifts? You’re trying so hard to find that perfect gift for that special someone, but far too often you end up with yet another gift certificate…which too be honest doesn’t really feel that well thought out nor special.
This year my siblings and I decided that we wouldn’t give each other any gifts. We are all spread out in different parts of the world, and when we’re not spending the holidays together buying present feels just like an exchange of money. So rather than trying to send something half way across the world, that none of us really need anyways we decided not to. Although we did promise each other to reevaluate it for next year..
Every year the Christmas shopping is setting new records. It doesn’t seem to matter too much what economical state we’re in…We are still buying gifts like never before. “Probably the reason we all go so haywire at Christmas time with the endless unrestrained and often silly buying of gifts is that we don’t quite know how to put our love into words.” – Harlan Miller
This year I’m buying one Christmas present. To my parents, or well not really…my parents both have fulltime jobs, meaning they can buy pretty much anything they want. And they do. So instead of me buying them something just because, I’m giving money to charity. The money I would normally spend on presents I’m this year giving to kids living in poverty. Money for clothes, medicine, food and fresh water. Essentials that too many people in this world just don’t have…
So instead of running around like a maniac, going from store to store I urge you to do the same. Have a cup of coffee, sit down with you laptop and credit card and search the internet. Why not buy a cow to a family in Senegal, winter clothes to homeless children in Ukraine, or help the 875 million people around the world that are missing fresh water by helping to donate money for water pump. And you’ll get a gift certificate, yeh, apparently there are some more thought out ones as well…Wrap it up and put it under the tree, or in my case, send it to someone in an email.
